Job summary

The City of Shreveport is seeking a Driver/Operator Heavy Equipment to operate a range of vehicles and machinery across city sites. The role includes assisting crews, loading/unloading trucks, and performing basic vehicle maintenance, with general physical tasks and local travel.

Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED and a valid Class A, B, or D Louisiana driver's license. The position emphasizes reliability and safe operation in a municipal setting.

Responsibilities

• Drives and/or operates automobiles, six-eight passenger van, bus, etc., and operates powered machinery such as tractors, pickups, carryalls, asphalt burners, laydown machines, flat beds, tar pots, chippers, spreaders, trailers, compressors, yard equipment, street flusher, dump truck (up to five yards), and/or mud jacks.
• May be assigned to work alone or with laborers.
• May assist in loading and unloading trucks.
• Assists City crews with physical work activities, including cutting grass, moving objects, spraying streets, and flushing.
• Services (gas, oil, water, clean, grease, etc.) and perform minor vehicle maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Physical Requirements

• Tasks involve sedentary to light work, involving some reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling of objects and materials;
• Involve the ability to exert light to moderately heavy physical effort, but which may involve some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate to moderately heavy weight (12-50 pounds); and may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
• Tasks may require perception and discrimination of color, sound, odor, depth, texture, as well as visual ability and oral communications ability.
• Jobs must be performed with or without accommodations.

Travel

Travel will be required locally from location to location to accomplish assignments and visit job sites.

Work Environment

• Tasks may require exposure to extreme temperature, strong odors, smoke, dust, pollen, wetness and humidity, machinery and traffic hazards.
