Job summary

City of Hammond is seeking an Equipment Operator CDL to perform semi-skilled work operating a limited variety of hauling, construction, and maintenance equipment to maintain city roads, rights-of-ways and city properties.

Under supervision, the operator will fuel, check, and perform minor repairs; assist mechanics, distribute asphalt, and perform general maintenance. A Louisiana driver's license is required, with CDL Class A obtainable within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years' experience operating related equipment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License.
• Ability to obtain Class A CDL within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment: boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and performs minor repairs.
• Assists mechanic in repairs on assigned equipment.

• Operates any of the following types of equipment: boom truck, street sweeper, street patching machine, dump truck, tractor, and related equipment, used to maintain and repair right of ways and beautify City property.
• Checks and fuels vehicles and perform light mechanical adjustments.
• Assists mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment.
• May distribute asphalt using specialized equipment, load and unload trucks.
• Performs various manual tasks involved in repairing roads and all other city properties.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Acceptable Training and Experiences:

• High school diploma or GED and two (2) years' experience operating related equipment.

Certificates and/or Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver's License and must have the ability to obtain a Class (A) Commercial Driver's License within the first (6) months of employment.
