Job Overview:

Screening and diagnosis of gynecologic (GYN), non-gynecologic (Non-GYN), and fine needle aspirate cytology specimen slides; performing on-site adequacy assessment of FNA specimens using mobile cart throughout the hospital, in CAB, at CINJ, and at University Radiology Group Outpatient office on Plum St., as other sites as needed; recording diagnoses of screening in Copath computer system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree from an approved college or university and certification as a cytotechnologist by ASCP and ASC
• ThinPrep certification required
• Three (3) years full-time and continuous experience as a cytotechnologist in a laboratory supervised by a pathologist or certified diagnostic cytopathologist

Responsibilities:

• Screens GYN, Non-GYN, and FNA cytology specimens
• Prepares final diagnoses on negative/normal gynecologic specimens
• Enters preliminary GYN and Non-GYN results into the system for finalization by a Pathologist
• Participates in Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology procedures to assess specimen adequacy
• Ensures proper labeling and ordering of specimens
• Maintains supplies and stain control logs for mobile FNA cart
• Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment
• Prepares cytology and ThinPrep specimens on a STAT basis when required
• Maintains confidentiality and participates in regulatory inspections
• Performs other duties as required
