Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Cytopathology lab seeks a Medical Technician II to support cytology specimen processing, accessioning, FNA triage, and routine technical procedures in a fast-paced lab.

You will participate in cell block prep, staining support, QC, inventory management, and rotate between the Main Hospital Campus locations to help keep cancer care moving forward.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor's Degree Basic sciences.
• May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Responsibilities

• Accessions and processes Cytology specimens with proper ID; assist FNA procurement and triage.
• Perform cell block prep, cell transfer and density gradient prep for lymphoma markers.
• Prepare reagents, set up stain hood, and assist with equipment maintenance.
• Rotate at the main hospital campus.
• Generate QC data per guidelines.
• Evaluate specimen integrity and notify appropriate personnel of unacceptable specimens.
• Document quality control measures and instrument controls.
• Clean and disinfect equipment; troubleshoot as needed.
• Complete all work assignments in a timely manner.
• Prioritize workflow to meet productivity goals; adapt to changes.
• Maintain knowledge of pre-analytical processes for troubleshooting.
• Monitor inventory to ensure supplies are used efficiently.
