The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Cytopathology lab seeks a Medical Technician II to support cytology specimen processing, accessioning, FNA triage, and routine technical procedures in a fast-paced lab.
You will participate in cell block prep, staining support, QC, inventory management, and rotate between the Main Hospital Campus locations to help keep cancer care moving forward.
Join MD Anderson's Cytopathology department as a Medical Technician II and play an important role in the laboratory processes that support accurate and timely cancer diagnoses. You'll work with specialized cytology specimens and technical procedures, helping maintain specimen integrity, laboratory quality, and efficient workflows at one of the world's leading cancer centers.
This role offers hands-on experience in a specialized laboratory environment where your technical skills and attention to detail make a difference. You'll accession and process cytology specimens, assist with fine needle aspiration (FNA) sample procurement and triage, and provide backup support in procedure rooms as needed. You'll also perform technical procedures such as cell block preparation, cell transfer, and density gradient preparation for lymphoma marker studies, while preparing reagents and supporting daily staining operations.
You'll help maintain the quality and reliability of laboratory testing by evaluating specimen integrity, documenting required quality control and quality assurance activities, and performing instrument controls. You'll also clean and disinfect laboratory equipment, troubleshoot equipment issues according to established protocols, and monitor inventory to ensure supplies are used effectively. By prioritizing daily assignments, adapting to changing workflows, and applying your knowledge of pre-analytical processes, you'll help the team meet productivity goals and keep critical laboratory operations running smoothly.
This position includes rotations at MD Anderson's Main Hospital Campus, providing an opportunity to contribute to the broader Cytopathology team and its daily operations. MD Anderson offers competitive pay, an annual merit increase program, annual incentive opportunities, an employer-funded pension contribution, medical, dental and vision coverage, generous paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
