Job summary

The Alaska Department of Law in Milwaukee seeks a Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate to join its dynamic team advising clients on data privacy and cyber defenses. You will help with breach response, regulatory guidance, and technology contracting across a growing practice.

Ideal candidates hold a JD from an ABA-approved school, are admitted or eligible to practice in Wisconsin, and have a CIPP/US or CIPM certification, along with strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice or eligible for admission in Wisconsin.
• Experience as a junior associate or comparable in-house counsel role.
• CIPP/US or CIPM certification is preferred.
• Superior organizational and time management skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication; able to work in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on cybersecurity incidents and data breaches.
• Support M&A data privacy and cybersecurity due diligence.
• Draft and negotiate tech, AI, data privacy, and information security agreements.
• Advise on privacy laws including GDPR, HIPAA, GLBA, CCPA and state laws.
• Develop data governance and privacy best practices, including AI governance.
• Draft cybersecurity policies and conduct tabletop exercises.
• Assist with technology disputes and communicate with supervising attorneys on enforcement trends.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
