Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking a Firmware Engineer - Cybersecurity to join our Pullman, WA team. You will develop secure embedded firmware, implement cybersecurity features, and collaborate across hardware and software teams to protect mission-critical systems.

In this role, you will design secure boot, firmware signing, authentication, cryptographic services, and security event logging, while applying secure coding practices and conducting threat modeling.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
• Proficiency in C, C++, and assembly.
• Embedded Linux development experience (C, C++, Python).
• Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals for embedded systems (cryptography, secure boot, PKI, TLS).
• Strong writing, documentation, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test embedded firmware with emphasis on cybersecurity.
• Develop security features: secure boot, firmware signing, authentication, access control, cryptographic services, secure key storage, security logging.
• Apply secure coding practices, threat modeling, and security design reviews.
• Perform security testing and vulnerability analysis (static analysis, fuzzing, penetration testing).
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on hardware-based security features and ensure compliance with standards.
