Job summary

Apex Systems is seeking an IT Systems Engineer to support DoD cyber operations at Eglin AFB. The role requires an active SECRET clearance and a strong background in systems engineering for DoD environments, with experience patching and hardening processes.

The engineer will develop cyber-resilient designs, perform security testing, and assist with authorization activities across the product lifecycle, including fielded systems support and travel to sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Active SECRET security clearance, and ability to maintain the security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent with 5 years of experience; or 3 years with master.
• 5+ years of technical systems engineering experience with DoD systems.
• DoD 8570 approved baseline certification for IAT Level II (e.g., CompTIA Security+, GSEC SSCP, CCNA-Security) or ability to achieve within 6 months.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, strong problem-solving, organized, flexible, and self-motivated.
• Ability to communicate effectively within cross-functional teams (Systems Engineers, Software Developers, System Administrators, and ISSMs).

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and analyze design constraints, trade-offs and detailed system and security design for the cyber domain.
• Conduct cybersecurity test and evaluation of hardware and/or software designs to verify and validate compliance with specifications.
• Implement appropriate assessment and authorization activities as required by customers.
• Respond to DoD guidance and engineer appropriate solutions for fielded systems.

Project Details

• For regular patching day to day responsibilities:
• Helping automate their current process for hardening, testing, verification and documentation
• Patching of the systems – they use WSUS and Ivanti
• Supporting any issues that may arises from the fielded training systems at Eglin AFB.

Basic Qualifications

• Active SECRET security clearance, and ability to maintain the security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline (such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering), or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related master’s degree.
• 5+ years of technical systems engineering experience with DOD systems.
• A desire to learn, grow, and share knowledge in the cybersecurity domain.
• DoD 8570 approved baseline certification for IAT Level II (IE CompTIA Security+, GSEC SSCP, CCNA-Security) or ability to achieve certification within 6 months.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities, be well organized, flexible, and self-motivated.
• Ability to communicate effectively within cross-functional teams (Systems Engineers, Software Developers, System Administrators, and Information Systems Security Managers).
