Job summary

Everforth Apex Systems in Washington, DC area seeks a Cybersecurity / Automation System Engineer on a 6-month contract-to-perm basis. Candidates must be U.S. citizens eligible for DoD clearance and can be 40% remote.

The role requires expertise in cybersecurity infrastructure, automation frameworks, and secure operations across Red Hat and virtualization environments. Top Secret/SCI eligibility is required and security certifications like Security+CE are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deploy and manage policies, rules, and signature sets on cybersecurity capabilities.
• Manage high-priority tasks and outages.
• Maintain SOPs and TTPs for security infrastructure.
• Maintain network/elevation diagrams for all managed security equipment.
• Advise government and program leadership on security improvements.
• Provide briefings on security status, updates, issues and upgrades.
• Operate and maintain cybersecurity capabilities (IDS/IPS/Netflow/SIEM/Snort/Linux/Virtualization).

Cybersecurity / Automation System Engineer

Candidates must be U.S. citizens able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense security clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.

Location: 40% Remote, Washington D.C.

Contract: est. 6 Month Contract to Permanent Hire

Salary: $175,000 - $194,000 (starting salary at permanent hire). Contract Pay Rate: $85.00 - $92.00 hourly on W-2.

Job Description

• Work with government counterparts, contractors, and internal team members to deploy and manage policies, rules, and signature sets on cybersecurity capabilities.
• Manage high-priority tasks and outages.
• Maintain, develop, and improve Security Infrastructure standard operating procedures and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
• Maintain complete and current network and elevation diagrams for all managed security equipment.
• Advise and strategize with government and program leadership on ways to improve the security infrastructure, requiring multi-dimensional problem solving and ingenuity with impact on multiple aspects of the mission.
• Provide briefings to program/project leadership, government leadership, and other internal stakeholders on security infrastructure status, updates/patches, issues, and/or upgrades.
• Operate and maintain cybersecurity capabilities to include IDS/IPS/Netflow/SIEM/Snort/Linux/Virtualization etc Ensure Compliance standards.

Requirements

• Secret or Top Secret/SCI Clearance (Eligibility)
• Security+CE
• Automation and Orchestration frameworks (ex. Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Managed updates and interoperability of 20+ Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and specialized tools such as Cisco Secure Endpoint, Zeek, Tenable and syslog servers.
  • Created Spunk queries for troubleshooting network issues and traffic monitoring.
  • Created Ansible playbooks to automate deployment and maintenance of Red Hat servers using CI/CD pipeline.
  • Deployed tools for Cyber Operations Center demos to provide options for threat intelligence capabilities.
• 10+ Years of Relevant Cyber/Security/System/Infrastructure Engineering Experience
• Strong Experience with cybersecurity capabilities to include IDS/IPS/Netflow/SIEM/Snort/Linux/Virtualization etc Ensure Compliance standards.
