Job summary

MANTECH in Herndon, VA seeks a highly skilled Cloud Security Engineer to strengthen cloud incident response posture across AWS environments. You will design, implement, and optimize security monitoring, automate playbooks, and fine-tune detection rules, collaborating with cybersecurity analysts and developers.

The role requires 7+ years in cloud security or cyber operations, 5+ years AWS, 3+ years Python, and CISSP/GIAC/CEH certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and optimize enterprise cloud security monitoring systems.

• Mentor CSOC staff, lead cyber exercises and training materials.
• Stay current on cybersecurity trends and AI concepts for cloud security.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Security Engineer to join MANTECH’s dynamic cybersecurity team in Herndon, VA. This role is pivotal in enhancing the cloud incident response posture for our clients, primarily focusing on Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive experience in cloud security, scripting, automation, and security operations to design, implement, and optimize security monitoring and incident response systems. They will work closely with cross-functional teams, including cybersecurity analysts and developers, to develop automated playbooks, fine-tune detection rules, and ensure robust security posture across cloud platforms. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, experience, and relevant certifications. Minimum qualifications include at least 7 years of experience in cloud security or cyber operations, with a strong background in operating systems, network infrastructure, security principles, or system architecture. A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with AWS is required, along with at least 3 years of scripting and coding proficiency in Python. Candidates should demonstrate a deep understanding of security monitoring, automation, and incident response processes. Relevant certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, or CEH are preferred, along with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Systems Design & Architecture: Collaborate on the design, architecture, and deployment of enterprise-scale cloud security monitoring systems, ensuring they are resilient, scalable, and effective in detecting and responding to security incidents.
• Development and Scripting: Create and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python or similar languages to enhance security workflows and incident response capabilities.
• Automation and Orchestration: Develop automated incident response playbooks and workflows to streamline security operations center (SOC) processes, reducing response times and minimizing manual intervention.
• Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with the CSOC team to share insights, coordinate response efforts, and provide technical mentorship to junior staff. Lead cyber exercises and drills to test and improve team readiness, and develop training materials for cloud security and incident response.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and technological advancements. Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement best practices to improve security posture and operational efficiency. Maintain knowledge of emerging AI concepts relevant to cloud security and incident response.
• Splunk Detection Development: Design, tune, and optimize detection rules within Splunk for AWS and other cloud platforms to improve threat detection accuracy and reduce false positives.
