Job summary

MANTECH is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Security Engineer to join their cybersecurity team in Herndon, VA. You will strengthen cloud incident response capabilities and work with a team to design and optimize cloud security monitoring across enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate has extensive AWS experience, strong scripting skills in Python, and a deep understanding of security best practices and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement scalable cloud security monitoring solutions.

• Collaborate with CSOC to share insights and mentor junior staff; lead cyber exercises.
• Stay informed on emerging cyber threats and AI applications in cloud security.
• Develop, tune, and optimize detection rules in Splunk using SPL.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Security Engineer to join MANTECH's cybersecurity team in Herndon, VA. In this role, you will be instrumental in strengthening the organization's cloud incident response capabilities. You will work closely with a team of cybersecurity professionals to design, implement, and optimize cloud security monitoring systems across enterprise environments. Your expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS), scripting, automation, and security information and event management (SIEM) tools will be critical to proactively identifying, analyzing, and mitigating security threats within cloud infrastructures. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to national security efforts by enhancing cloud security posture and developing innovative security solutions.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years of experience in cloud security or cyber operations, with a proven track record of managing complex security environments.


• Extensive knowledge of Operating Systems, Network Infrastructure, Security Principles, and System Architecture.


• At least five years of hands-on experience working with AWS cloud services.


• Three or more years of scripting and programming experience in Python or similar languages to develop automation tools and scripts.


• Strong understanding of security best practices, incident response procedures, and threat mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

• Systems Design & Architecture: Collaborate with stakeholders to design, architect, and implement scalable cloud security monitoring solutions aligned with enterprise requirements.


• Development and Scripting: Create, maintain, and enhance scripts and automation tools using Python or similar languages to improve security workflows and incident response capabilities.


• Automation and Orchestration: Develop automated incident response playbooks and integrate them into existing security orchestration, automation, and response (SOAR) platforms to streamline threat detection and mitigation processes.


• Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with the Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC) team to share insights, coordinate response efforts, and provide technical mentorship to junior staff. Lead cyber exercises and drills to improve team readiness, and develop training materials focused on cloud security and incident response.


• Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about emerging cybersecurity threats, trends, and technological advancements. Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement industry best practices to strengthen security posture. Maintain current knowledge of AI applications in cloud security and incident response.


• Splunk Detection Development: Develop, tune, and optimize detection rules within Splunk to identify malicious activities and anomalies in AWS and other cloud environments, utilizing Splunk Query Language (SPL).
