Job summary

MANTECH is seeking a Senior Splunk Cyber Security Engineer to join our Chantilly, VA team. Lead administration, engineering, and optimization of Splunk platforms ensuring stability, security, and performance across a large enterprise.

You will collaborate with cyber analysts, system administrators, and other technical teams to develop and implement security solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and elevate the organization’s security posture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT/Cybersecurity or 4+ years cybersecurity experience.
• 5+ years in enterprise or cybersecurity environments.
• Expertise in Splunk administration and engineering.
• Experience with Splunk Enterprise Security (ES) configurations and content management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of large-scale enterprise Splunk deployments.
• Troubleshoot data collection issues, stability concerns, and data integrity.
• Deploy and maintain Splunk add-ons and ES configurations.
• Execute Splunk Enterprise upgrades, patches, and updates.
• Configure and deploy Splunk forwarders via centralized tools.
• Tune and maintain ES content, dashboards, alerts, and data models.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Splunk Cyber Security Engineer to join our dynamic team in Chantilly, VA. This role is critical in supporting a mission-essential initiative focused on cybersecurity operations within a large enterprise environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the administration, engineering, and optimization of Splunk platforms, ensuring the system's stability, security, and performance. You will work closely with cyber analysts, system administrators, and other technical teams to develop and implement security solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and enhance the overall security posture of the organization.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or alternatively, 4+ years of additional cybersecurity experience without a degree.


• At least 5 years of experience working in enterprise or cybersecurity-focused environments, demonstrating a strong understanding of security operations and systems management.


• Proven expertise in Splunk administration, engineering, and operational management.


• Hands-on experience with Splunk Enterprise Security (ES), including configurations and content management.


• Proficiency in Unix and Windows operating systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize across both platforms.


• Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification such as Security+, CCNA-Security, or GSEC.

Responsibilities

• Managing the day-to-day operations of large-scale enterprise Splunk deployments to ensure optimal performance and availability.


• Identifying and resolving data collection issues, system stability concerns, and integrity problems through effective troubleshooting and system tuning.


• Deploying, configuring, and maintaining both supported and unsupported Splunk add-ons to enhance system capabilities.


• Executing Splunk Enterprise upgrades, patches, and system updates to maintain security and functionality.


• Configuring and deploying Splunk forwarders using centralized management tools to facilitate data ingestion across diverse environments.


• Maintaining and tuning Splunk Enterprise Security (ES) content, dashboards, alerts, and operational data to support security monitoring and incident response.


• Developing and managing knowledge objects, data models, and operational content to improve system efficiency and security insights.


• Supporting API integrations and external system connectivity to ensure seamless data flow and automation.


• Creating and maintaining detailed engineering, system architecture, and compliance documentation to support audits and system management.


• Contributing to the development of system diagrams, deployment architecture, and operational procedures to support ongoing system enhancements and troubleshooting.
