Job summary

MANTECH is seeking a motivated and experienced Principal AWS Cloud Engineer to join their enterprise cloud team in Chantilly, VA. This pivotal role serves as the primary AWS technical authority, responsible for leading the design, deployment, and security management of the organization’s primary AWS environment.

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or related field, or 4+ years IT/engineering experience.
• 7+ years of cloud computing and engineering experience with focus on AWS.
• Active DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and securing enterprise AWS environments using EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Route53, RDS, CloudFront, and Lambda.

Responsibilities

• Serving as the principal subject matter expert for the administration, security hardening, and management of AWS enterprise infrastructure.
• Architecting, deploying, and optimizing automated cloud security monitoring, threat detection, and event-driven logging pipelines using AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, AWS Config, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, EventBridge, and Lambda.
• Leading the deployment of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC) solutions using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, adhering to a code-first, audited workflow.
• Enforcing IAM governance policies, Service Control Policies (SCPs), least-privilege access principles, permission boundaries, and Zero Trust security architectures across multi-account AWS Organizations.
• Providing Tier 3 escalation support to diagnose and resolve complex technical, network, security, and performance issues across AWS and connected environments.
• Developing and maintaining automation scripts in Python, Bash, or PowerShell to streamline operations, vulnerability remediation, and system health telemetry.
• Collaborating with engineering and operational teams to align AWS security baselines with Azure and OCI, and documenting automated workflows and Service Design Packages for audit readiness.

About The Role

MANTECH is seeking a motivated and experienced Principal AWS Cloud Engineer to join their enterprise cloud team in Chantilly, VA. This pivotal role serves as the primary AWS technical authority, responsible for leading the design, deployment, and security management of the organization’s primary AWS environment. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of cloud security monitoring, threat detection, and multi-cloud security alignment, particularly across Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). As a key member of the team, you will develop and implement automation solutions, enforce security best practices, and support complex technical challenges to ensure the integrity and performance of the cloud infrastructure. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work on mission-critical projects within a dynamic environment, contributing to national security and enterprise resilience.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or alternatively, 4+ years of additional IT/engineering experience.
• At least 7 years of cloud computing and engineering experience, with a focus on AWS environments.
• An active DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification such as Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+, SSCP, or GSEC, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and securing enterprise AWS environments utilizing services like EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, Route53, RDS, CloudFront, and Lambda.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation and scripting languages including Python, Bash, or PowerShell, with experience executing via AWS CLI.
• Demonstrated expertise in multi-account governance, Zero Trust architectures, and automated cloud security monitoring pipelines.
