Cyber Security Engineer (Enterprise & Operational Technology)

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid, 2-3 days onsite per week)

Duration: 12+ Month Contract

Potential: Extension and/or Conversion to Full-Time

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to support enterprise and operational environments through proactive security monitoring, risk management, incident response, and security engineering initiatives. This individual will collaborate across technology, infrastructure, engineering, and business teams to strengthen the organization's cyber defense capabilities while supporting ongoing modernization and digital transformation efforts.

The ideal candidate possesses a broad cybersecurity background with experience in threat detection, security operations, cloud security, vulnerability management, digital investigations, and emerging technology risk assessments.

Key Responsibilities
Security Operations & Incident Response
  • Monitor, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity events across enterprise systems and business-critical environments.
  • Develop and enhance detection capabilities to identify malicious activity and improve response effectiveness.
  • Investigate security alerts, incidents, and anomalous activity using log analysis and forensic techniques.
  • Support threat intelligence activities and help identify evolving cyber risks.
  • Participate in threat modeling and security architecture reviews to strengthen defensive capabilities.
  • Evaluate existing controls and recommend improvements that reduce risk and improve visibility.
Risk & Vulnerability Management
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and assist with remediation planning across infrastructure, applications, and connected systems.
  • Identify security weaknesses and provide recommendations for risk reduction.
  • Work with technology teams to prioritize remediation efforts based on business impact and threat exposure.
  • Support compliance, risk assessment, and security review initiatives.
  • Track security findings and provide ongoing reporting to stakeholders.
  • Assist with the implementation of security controls across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
  • Support identity and access management, data protection, and workload security initiatives.
  • Contribute to automation and infrastructure security efforts.
  • Promote security best practices throughout application and infrastructure lifecycles.
  • Support Zero Trust and modern cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and AI-enabled solutions from a security and risk perspective.
  • Identify potential threats related to data exposure, misuse, unauthorized access, and system integrity.
  • Recommend governance controls and secure implementation practices.
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop secure adoption strategies for new technologies.
Operational Technology Security
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives across operational and business technology environments.
  • Assist with security assessments, asset visibility efforts, and risk reduction activities.
  • Collaborate with technical and operational teams to improve system resilience and security posture.
  • Help implement safeguards that protect critical systems while maintaining operational performance.
  • Contribute to network security, segmentation, monitoring, and access control initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, security engineering, incident response, vulnerability management, cloud security, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with security monitoring, endpoint security, threat detection, and risk management practices.
  • Knowledge of industry security frameworks and best practices.
  • Experience working within Windows and Linux environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting complex enterprise and operational technology environments.
  • Background in cloud security, security operations, digital investigations, or infrastructure security.
  • Familiarity with asset management, network security, and cyber risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience working in highly regulated or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, Security+, AZ-500, CEH, OSCP, or similar
