Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Cyber Security Development Engineer for its Arlington, VA team. The role blends software development with cybersecurity to design, build, and maintain secure systems for mission-critical environments.

You will design security controls, perform vulnerability assessments, and develop automated security tools while collaborating with development teams to embed DevSecOps practices. On-site work in Arlington is required with Secret clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or other STEM field (or equivalent full-time professional experience)
• 3 years of experience in the design, development, and management of complex software systems for the DoD
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time as needed
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as, C++, Java, or Python
• Advanced knowledge of firewalls, Linux, databases, operating system security, cloud infrastructure, and secure coding practices
• Expertise with security principles such as encryption, authentication, identity management (SSO, MFA, PAM), and secure API design
• Knowledge of common security vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and how to prevent them
• Basic understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning principles and their application in cybersecurity
• Hands-on experience with security testing and assessment tools (e.g., Nessus, Nmap, Wireshark, Splunk, SCAP, Burp Suite, Metasploit)
• Understanding of secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC) and DevSecOps practices

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement security controls and features within software applications and systems
• Conduct security assessments, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing of software and infrastructure
• Develop and automate security tools and processes to enhance the software development lifecycle
• Respond to and investigate security incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
• Design, implement, and train machine learning models for anomaly detection, behavioral analysis, and proactive threat hunting
• Collaborate with development teams to integrate security best practices (DevSecOps) into the entire software development process
• Analyze and fortify systems against security threats, ensuring compliance with DoD security standards and requirements
• Stay current with the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, and technologies to continuously improve the security posture of IDT's solutions
