Job summary

By Light Professional IT Services LLC, a CESI by By Light company, seeks a Cyber Range Engineer to join the Range Operations team in the Persistent Cyber Training Environment – Operations Group (PCTE-OG) in Annapolis Junction, MD. You will design, implement, and maintain advanced cyber training environments with Windows and Linux, virtualized infrastructure, and cybersecurity tooling.

The role requires hands-on experience, problem solving, and collaboration with engineers across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or 6 years of relevant experience.
• 5+ years combined experience in CNO/CNE/CND, cyber training, CPT coordination.
• Current DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II Certification.
• Relevant networking, Cloud/VMware, and RedHat/Linux/Windows certifications.
• Windows and Linux proficiency, plus VMware experience.
• Strong communication and ability to work with diverse engineers.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, build, and execution of cybersecurity training in cyber range environments.
• Build cyber range content: VMs, networks, accounts, tooling, injects.
• Operate offensive and defensive training content under design guidance.
• Provide event support: readiness checks, access, troubleshooting, rapid fixes.
• Configure Windows and Linux hosts: patching, baselines, lab state.
• Deliver virtual infrastructure and network support: VMware, DNS, TCP/IP, routing.
• Coordinate with content developers and staff; track tasks and communicate status.
• Develop and update runbooks, diagrams, and after-action inputs.
• Identify repeat issues; implement process/automation updates.
