Job summary

By Light Professional IT Services is seeking a Cyber Range Engineer to join the Range Operations team in the PCTE-OG. The role requires hands-on work with Windows and Linux systems, virtualization (VMware), and cybersecurity tooling to design, deploy, and troubleshoot advanced training environments.

The position is full-time, on-site in Annapolis Junction, MD, with travel up to 10% and a strong emphasis on event support, documentation, and continuous improvement of lab configurations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or 6 years of relevant experience.
• 5+ years of combined experience with CNO/CNE/CND platforms and cyber training.
• DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II Certification required.
• Relevant networking and cloud/VMware certifications preferred.
• Strong Windows and Linux operating system experience.

Responsibilities

• Support planning, build, and execution of cybersecurity training in cyber ranges.
• Build and configure cyber range content: VMs, networks, tooling, and injects.
• Operate offensive/defensive training content under design guidance.
• Provide event support: readiness checks, access, troubleshooting, rapid fixes.
• Configure Windows and Linux hosts and restore lab state as needed.
• Deliver virtual infrastructure and network support (VMware, DNS, TCP/IP).
• Coordinate with staff to capture requirements and communicate status.
• Develop runbooks, diagrams, and after-action inputs for repeatable delivery.
• Identify repeat issues and propose automation or config improvements.
