Job summary

The Child and Youth Program Leader at Navy Region Naval District Washington provides direct care and instruction to children and youth from 6 weeks to 18 years across CYP programs. You mentor CY Program Assistants and translate professional development training into practice under the guidance of the T&C Specialist.

You will ensure safety and compliance with DoD policies, plan activities, and oversee communication with parents and staff while documenting developmental progress.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for 6 weeks to 18 years.
• Understanding child and youth development principles and practices.
• Ability to apply laws on child abuse prevention.
• Ability to plan programs and schedule employees.
• Leadership, mentoring, and guidance for CY staff.

Responsibilities

• Mentor CY Program Assistants and translate training into practice.
• Plan activities to meet physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs.
• Maintain indoor/outdoor areas and equipment for daily schedules.
• Foster positive interactions among children, youth, and adults.
• Provide supervision, safety, and accountability per DoD policies.
• Communicate with parents and staff; participate in conferences.
• Assist with assessment tasks and developmental documentation.
• Ensure compliance with DoD certification and accreditation.
• Collect program participation data and perform related duties.
