Job summary

Fickett Structural Solutions, Inc. seeks a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform visual inspections of structural steel used in buildings, bridges, dams, and related structures.

The role requires coordination with project managers, engineers of record, and field personnel, plus detailed reporting of inspection results. Qualified candidates will have CWI with D1.1/D1.5 experience, 1+ year of inspection work, and ability to obtain ICC Special Inspections certifications.

Qualifications

• Holds a current certificate as a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) with D1.1 or D1.5 work experience
• 1-year of experience or more as a CWI performing in-service weld inspections or shop welding inspections
• Familiar with the scope and limitations of the methods for which certified and able to work without direct supervision
• Experience with structural steel welding inspections, bolting inspections, and writing comprehensive reports
• Ability to obtain ICC Special Inspections certification for 2.1 Structural Steel: Steel High Strength Bolting and 2.2 Structural Steel: Steel – Welding within three months
• Ability to read and understand engineering and construction plans, specifications, industry codes and shop drawings
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions
• Ability to drive company vehicle or own vehicle to job sites

Responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections (VT) on structural steel for buildings, bridges, dams and more
• Coordinates inspections with site project manager or responsible person in charge
• Coordinate and communicate with Engineer of Record as required
• Communicate with project personnel regarding work requirements, inspection findings, and identified defects
• Ensure proper care, maintenance, and use of specialized inspection and testing equipment
• Prepares timely, detailed reports of inspection results with drawings and photos
• Ensure compliance with safety policies, regulations and client requirements
• Maintain compliance with AWS, ASTM, RCSC, IBC, ICC, OSHA and other codes
• Promote safety awareness and best practices in field and office activities
• Other responsibilities, as required/assigned
