Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to hold accept/reject authority on welding across structural steel, pipe, and fabricated assemblies. Inspect to AWS codes, witness qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, and sign reports relied on by engineers and officials.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years as a CWI, knowledge of D1.1 and at least one of D1.5/D1.8/ASME IX/API 1104, and ICC steel/bolting certifications are a plus. Expect field and shop work with potential travel.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 2+ years inspecting
• Able to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records
• Witness welder qualification tests
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection
• Write repair instructions
• IBC Chapter 17 record responsibilities
