Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to inspect structural steel, pipe, and fabrications to AWS D1.x, ASME IX, or API 1104 as required. The role includes witnessing qualification tests, reviewing WPS/PQR, directing NDT, and signing reports relied on by engineers and officials.

Primary work locations include fabrication shops and field erection, with travel as needed and overtime for active projects.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working command of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting special inspector certification preferred (sponsored if not held).

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records; witness qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing; write reports and nonconformance reports.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plate grouting where certified.
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and the building official.
