Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to lead inspections of structural steel, pipe, and fabricated assemblies. You will witness welder qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, and provide sign-off on reports used by the engineer of record and the building official.

You must hold a current AWS CWI with 2+ years of experience, with strong code knowledge and the ability to defend rejection decisions. Travel to job sites and shops is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting special inspector certification preferred (sponsored if not held).
• Ability to defend a rejection to a fabricator and document it so the retest closes.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder qualification tests and direct non-destructive testing.
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and the building official.
