Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL seeks an Anesthesia Technician to assist anesthesia providers with patient assessment, monitoring and equipment setup. You will help with IV/invasive lines, airway management and OR readiness, ensuring the anesthesia environment is prepared for cases.

The role requires reading/writing English, basic computer skills, and knowledge of sterile technique, with duties spanning routine and emergency support for anesthesiologists.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients, family, hospital staff and physicians
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in health care
  • Knowledge of aseptic/sterile technique and sterility of supplies
  • Must read, write and speak conversational English
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to monitor dosages and use clinical equipment

Responsibilities

  • Assists anesthesia providers with patient assessment, monitoring, transporting, positioning, IV and invasive line insertion, and airway management.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots anesthesia equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensures equipment and supply inventory remain in stock.
  • Provides routine and emergency services for anesthesiologists.
  • Assists with schedule preparations for emergent and urgent procedures.
  • Assists staff with preparation and draping for invasive monitoring/procedures.
  • Sets up operating room including laryngoscope, intubation equipment and IV setups.
  • Provides peri-operative technical support for patient care.
  • Assists with procurement and operation of specialized equipment (humidification units, fiber optic endoscopes, infusion devices, etc).
  • Maintains and organizes anesthesia environment, equipment, and personnel for efficient case flow.
  • Cleans and sets up anesthesia equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description
  • Assists anesthesia providers with patient assessment, monitoring, transporting, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots anesthesia equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensures necessary equipment and supply inventory remain in stock.
  • Provides routine and emergency services for anesthesiologists.
  • Assists with schedule preparations, including emergent and urgent surgical procedures involving anesthesia.
  • Assists anesthesia professional staff with preparation and draping of patients for invasive monitoring/procedures and anticipates needs for invasive monitor insertion and procedures.
  • Sets up operating room for cases, including preparation of laryngoscope, intubation equipment, IV solution, tubing set-up, and IV warming devices.
  • Provides peri-operative technical support to the anesthesia professional staff for delivery of patient care.
  • Assists with the procurement, assembly, and operation of specialized equipment such as humidification units, fiber optic endoscopic equipment, rapid infusion devices/blood warmers, patient warming devices, neuromuscular devices, infusion pumps, and syringes.
  • Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies, and personnel to facilitate department functions and ensure efficient flow of cases.
  • Cleans and sets up anesthesia equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals [Required]
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry [Required]
  • Knowledge and basic skills related to aseptic/ sterile technique and sterility of supplies [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Ability to appropriately monitor dosages and use clinical equipment [Required]
Education
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Preferred]
  • Associate [Preferred]
  • Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]
Field Of Study
  • Completion of an Anesthesia Technology training program [Required]
Work Experience
  • 1+ experience as an anesthesia tech [Preferred]
Additional Information
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the stated degree requirement:
  • Completion of an Anesthesia Technology training program OR
  • 1+ year experience as an anesthesia tech
Licenses And Certifications
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
  • Anesthesia Technician Certification (AT) [Preferred]
OR
  • Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer. A.T.T.) [Preferred]
