Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a qualified Customs Entry Specialist in New Jersey to ensure accurate entry data, regulatory compliance, and timely cargo clearance. You will resolve complex exceptions, manage government holds, and collaborate with brokers and internal teams to ensure seamless import processes.

The role emphasizes automation-enabled workflows, HTS familiarity, and strong customer-facing support. A high school diploma is required, with 2–3 years of related experience preferred;

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2–3 years of entry-writing experience or related international transport roles.
  • Experience supporting automation-enabled workflows or BPO-integrated operations.
  • Familiarity with customs exams, holds, or dangerous goods processes.
  • Knowledge of HTS, ABI, AMS queries, or entry summary components.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and prioritization skills.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and supply chain basics.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate customs entry data for accuracy, compliance, and timely cargo clearance.
  • Resolve complex customs exceptions involving documentation gaps, classification, valuation, and regulatory concerns.
  • Manage government agency holds and customs examinations (CBP, FDA, CPSC, VACIS, CET, Tailgate).
  • Interpret customs regulations and apply them across daily operations and automated processes.
  • Prioritize critical shipment issues to prevent delays and maintain customer service.
  • Partner with customs brokers, transportation providers, and internal teams for import clearance and delivery.
  • Own and maintain customer-specific SOPs, HTS databases, and compliance requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve cargo damage claims, insurance matters, demurrage, detention disputes, and other issues.
  • Conduct quality reviews of customs entries and automated decisions.
  • Identify workflow enhancements and support automation initiatives to optimize operations.

Job description

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2-3 years of entry-writing experience, international transportation, or experience with AI Agents
  • Experience supporting automation-enabled workflows or BPO-integrated operations
  • Familiarity with customs exams, government agency holds, or dangerous goods processes
  • Knowledge of ABI, AMS queries, or entry summary components
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  • Prior experience in customer-facing operational support or escalation management
  • Knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and the supply chain
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills

  • Proven track record of dealing with customers and being client focused
