Job summary

Tecma Baja Services LLC in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Customs Runner / Expeditor to manage the flow of import/export documents and coordinate with CBP, brokers, clients, and internal teams to ensure timely clearance.

You will deliver and retrieve documents, monitor shipment status, resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate records, while complying with all laws and safety policies; a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of import/export documentation and customs procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and retrieve customs documents from CBP, brokers, clients, and agencies.
  • Coordinate with Customs Clerks and Import/Export Specialists to support clearance.
  • Monitor shipment status and provide updates to internal teams.
  • Ensure documentation is complete and submitted within deadlines.
  • Resolve documentation discrepancies when needed.
  • Maintain organized records of deliveries and pickups.
  • Operate company vehicles safely per laws and policies.

Job Summary

The Customs Runner / Expeditor is responsible for transporting customs documentation and supporting the customs clearance process by coordinating with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), customs brokers, clients, and internal departments. This position ensures timely delivery and retrieval of documents, assists with shipment processing, and helps maintain an efficient import/export operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver and retrieve customs documentation from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), customs brokers, clients, and other government agencies.
  • Coordinate with Customs Clerks and Import/Export Specialists to support the customs clearance process.
  • Monitor shipment status and communicate updates to internal teams.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted within required timeframes.
  • Assist in resolving documentation discrepancies when needed.
  • Maintain organized records of deliveries and pickups.
  • Operate company vehicles safely while following all traffic laws and company policies.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients and government officials.
  • Perform additional administrative or operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in customs brokerage, logistics, transportation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of import/export documentation and customs procedures is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to cross the U.S.–Mexico border as required for business purposes.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and drive for extended periods.
Preferred Skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with the operations team.
