Job summary

Steam Logistics is seeking a Customs Specialist to support U.S. import shipments by reviewing documents, entering data, and ensuring compliant and timely clearance. You will work closely with customers, internal teams, and agencies like CBP, FDA, and USDA in a fully digital environment.

You’ll receive training, collaborate with a supportive team, and gradually take on more responsibility as you grow within Steam’s compliance-focused role.

Qualifications

• High attention to detail with strong data entry and document review skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to stay organized and manage multiple tasks at once.
• Minimum of 1–2 years of professional work experience in any industry.
• Interest in logistics, supply chain, international trade, or compliance.
• Previous experience in logistics or freight forwarding is a plus, but not required.
• Comfortable working in a fully digital environment using Microsoft Office and learning new systems.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow in a compliance related profession.

Responsibilities

• Collect and review commercial documents from clients and partners for completeness and accuracy.
• Enter shipment and customs data into Steam’s systems.
• Submit customs entries in advance of port arrival to support timely cargo release.
• Coordinate with internal Operations and Drayage teams to address holds, exams, or agency requirements.
• Communicate with CBP, FDA, USDA, FWS, DHS, and other agencies as needed.
• Assist with Post Summary Corrections (PSCs) under team guidance.
• Support client onboarding calls and help explain Steam’s customs clearance process.
• Help maintain HTS classifications, product records, and country‑of‑origin information.
• Prepare and issue Delivery Orders (D/O’s) for drayage partners and track shipments through final delivery.
• Assist with freight and terminal payments to help avoid unnecessary delays or storage charges.
• Support audits and internal reviews to maintain a strong culture of compliance.
