Actalent in Cary, NC seeks an onsite Customer Support/Pharmacy Technician to support a specialty pharmacy by verifying insurance, processing claims, and providing top-tier customer service in a non-patient-facing office environment.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure timely access to medications, manage multiple communication channels, and help with portal documentation using Biologics MIS.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy technician with CPhT preferred and pharmacy background in retail or specialty settings.
• Experience handling prior authorizations and insurance workflows.
• Strong data entry and attention to detail for prescriptions, insurance data, and claims.
• Excellent communication across phone, chat, and email channels.

Job Title: Customer Support/Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

This onsite Customer Support/Pharmacy Technician role supports a large, rapidly growing specialty pharmacy by simplifying access to medications and delivering personalized care for patients, including those with rare diseases. You will focus on insurance verification, pharmacy claim processing, and high-quality customer service in an office-based, non‑patient‑facing environment, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure accurate, timely support for patients, clinicians, and payors.

Responsibilities

• Recognize and clearly explain different insurance types and when each type should be utilized for patient coverage.
• Communicate with patients to collect and verify accurate insurance information.
• Enter all communication and documentation into the Biologics MIS system in a timely and accurate manner.
• Assist with projects such as yearly re‑verification of insurance and related coverage details.
• Triage prescriptions to preferred pharmacies or HUB providers when the specialty pharmacy is unable to serve the patient.
• Appropriately process pharmacy claims within the Biologics MIS, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant guidelines.
• Review and interpret pharmacy claim responses, and take appropriate follow‑up actions based on the outcomes.
• Manage inbound calls from patients, clients, physicians, and payors regarding patient updates, insurance information, and services provided.
• Provide professional, courteous customer service during all phone and written interactions.
• Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to clinicians according to established procedures.
• Manage and respond to internal written communications and requests received via chat or email.
• Perform accurate data entry related to prescriptions, insurance information, and claim processing.
• Support retail pharmacy and call center‑style operations as needed to maintain service levels.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive timely access to medications and support.
• Carry out other related duties as assigned to support pharmacy operations and patient services.

Essential Skills

• Registered pharmacy technician status, with CPhT certification strongly preferred.
• Pharmacy background with experience in a retail or specialty pharmacy setting.
• Customer service experience, including handling inbound calls in a call center or similar environment.
• Experience with prior authorizations and related insurance processes.
• Ability to recognize and effectively communicate about insurance types and appropriate utilization.
• Proficiency in processing pharmacy claims and interpreting pharmacy claim responses.
• Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple communication channels, including phone, chat, and email.
• Requires 1+ years of related experience in pharmacy or a closely related field.
• Minimum of an associate degree or equivalent experience and 3+ years of related experience.
• Ability to identify and appropriately report adverse events and product complaints.
• Reliable ability to work onsite five days a week during scheduled shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential is a plus.
• Experience working in a specialty pharmacy environment is beneficial.
• Background in retail pharmacy operations and call center workflows is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, clinicians, and payors.
• Comfort working with a multidisciplinary team focused on rare disease patient populations.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite in an office environment in Cary, NC, with no direct patient contact. The pharmacy operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST, and is closed on weekends and major holidays. Shifts for this position typically range from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., or 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST. You will work in a professional, collaborative setting with a multidisciplinary team focused on specialty and rare disease medications, using the Biologics MIS system and other standard office technologies to manage calls, documentation, and pharmacy claims

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cary, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $22.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
