OBJECTIVE:Under direct supervision of the Water Supervisor, the Customer Service Technician performs technical and customer service duties. Technical work involvesparticipating in the testing, installation, and repair of water meters and reading meters for billing purposes. This position will also assist any commercial, industrial and residential customers with water service concerns, and help to resolve the problem.
RELATIONSHIPS:Reports to: Water Supervisor
Has regular work contact with Department, Division, and Office heads, City employees, other governmental agencies, and the general public.

- Completes meter reading as needed for billing purposes.
- Responds to the Clerk-Treasurer’s office for final meter reads and service issue reports upon request.
- Assists in meter testing program.
- Responds to residential water meter or usage inquiries, issues, and other basic operational matters or refers the issue to the proper supervisor for a response.
- Operates a hand-held device to program or replace radio read devices.
- Reports to Customer Service Crew Leader all completed daily work assignments, updates customer records, and any incident or problem that requires attention.
- Reports to the Customer Service Crew Leader any vehicle or equipment malfunction for repair or damage to City facilities.
- Maintains proper daily maintenance of City equipment.
- Provides effective and efficient customer service and promotes and maintains responsive community relations.
- Assists in snow plow operations, as necessary.
- Responds to basic citizen operational inquiries or refers to the proper supervisor for response.
- Works with Water Operators on work assignments, if required.
- Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.
- Performs other special projects and other job duties as assigned or required during regular and non-business hours.
- All employees may be assigned by the City Manager or their designee to perform duties and assume responsibilities that are outside the scope of their work duties when the City Manager has declared a City disaster or the City Emergency Operations Center has been initiated.
The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.- A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in heavy equipment operation, general construction, or applicable trade is required.
- Possession of a valid state-issued Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License, or ability to obtain such license within one (1) year of hire.
- A valid, state-issued driver’s license at time of hire is required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. A regular, Monday – Friday, 7am – 3pm 40-hour work schedule is required for this position. Additionally, this position will respond to emergency situations twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week as needed.
