Objective: Under the direct supervision of the Water Supervisor, the Customer Service Technician performs technical and customer service duties, including testing, installation, and repair of water meters, reading meters for billing, and assisting customers with water service concerns.
Relationships: Reports to: Water Supervisor. Works with Department, Division, and Office heads, city employees, other agencies, and the public. No supervisory responsibilities.
A combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of water meters, city geography, repair techniques, snow and ice control, and possess skills in equipment operation, customer service, organization, communication, collaboration, and technical proficiency. Abilities include strenuous labor, mathematical calculations, record keeping, independent work, licensing, decision-making, scheduling, technology use, safety compliance, and more. Behaviors include professionalism, ethics, inclusivity, fairness, reliability, teamwork, and positive public interaction.
Work involves outdoor conditions, exposure to weather, mechanical hazards, chemicals, noise, and physical activities such as walking, standing, lifting, and climbing. Vision, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive abilities are required. Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm, with emergency response availability 24/7.
