Nature of Work

This is a public service position with responsibilities including public service work at the Youth Services information desk, assisting with programming, providing audio-visual support, data and statistical support, and other tasks as assigned. Work is performed under the overall supervision of the Division Head. Work involves learning complex programs and databases to find information needed by the public. Individuals in the position are required to learn and interpret policies and procedures of the library. Work includes a great deal of contact with the public.

Work Schedule

This position requires the flexibility to regularly work evenings and weekends. This position will work up to 13.5 hours per week.

Pay

The starting pay rate for this position is $16.81.

Duties and Responsibilities

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed with this job classification. Individual job duties will vary based on the work assignment and location.

  • Customer Service
  • Serve the public at an information desk by responding to information inquiries in person, by phone, by email and by other methods.
  • Assist customers in the use of the online catalog, ebook resources, online databases, Internet stations, Pharos reservation stations, printing, game stations, iPad stations and other technology.
  • Explain and enforce library policies and procedures.
  • Meet the City's RISE standards and the Library's Core Values in all interactions with the public and staff.
  • Programming Assistance
  • Assist with a variety of programming, which includes active participation at outreach events. Enter and modify program information in our events software as directed.
  • Maintain assigned activity areas, collections, or displays.
  • Assist with flyer and poster creation and distribution.
  • Run audio-visual equipment and provide technical support for AV equipment.
  • Check returned kits and other bundled items for missing and damaged items.
  • Pull materials from the shelves for weeding, programs, displays, etc. as directed.
  • Administration and Support Duties
  • Work with bookkeeping tasks, such as, counting and reconciling daily money trays, preparing bank deposits, and assisting with other recordkeeping duties.
  • Provide clerical and data entry support for specified projects for the Library Administrative Team and Library Administration.
  • Capture and record monthly statistics for use with monthly reporting and data dashboards
  • Inventory, track, and order office supplies

Perform Other Duties As Assigned Or Necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or the equivalent AND one year providing customer service
  • Experience with computer software
Desirable Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Some post-secondary education obtained from a community college, business/vocational school or a degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous work experience in a library
  • Ability to speak and/or read a language other than English
  • Understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Excel functions including graphs and pivot tables
  • Experience with reconciling money trays
