Job description

Job Title: Customer Manager

The Customer Manager is a salesperson responsible for being the sales expert for designated Customer(s), providing strategic customer insights. The role involves ensuring the execution of joint business plans with the customer and collaborating closely with Key Account Managers (KAMs), order entry, claims, schematics, and retail sales associates to meet Client and Customer standards. The Customer Manager must effectively bridge relationships between the KAM Team and all stakeholders at assigned customer(s).

Our clients include manufacturers, vendors, or brands contracted with Advantage as their sales force. Our customers are retailers, wholesalers, or distributors to whom we sell our clients’ brands. The Customer Manager will develop strategic plans with customers to achieve business goals and work with retailer associates (such as buyers, category managers, replenishment managers) on headquarter calls to implement programs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Drive Business Growth: Increase distribution, sales dollars/units/share/KPIs within budget guidelines.
  2. Manage Sales Activities: Analyze customer data, plan sales, and prepare sales presentations.
  3. Stakeholder Communication: Serve as conduit between Customers, KAMs, and Clients through product line and new item presentations, and display selling.
  4. Manage Initiatives: Delegate KAM and divisional initiatives, maintain up-to-date trackers, and handle special requests.
  5. Customer Engagement: Ensure timely responses from customers regarding promotions and forecasts.
  6. Business Development: Recommend and implement strategies for long-term growth.
  7. Client and Management Meetings: Attend and present at client and management team meetings.
  8. Relationship Building: Develop relationships with buyers and support departments, assisting with tactical issues like POs, costs, and contract execution.
  9. Sales and Promotions: Sell displays, promotions, and new products; present business reviews and product distributions based on data.
  10. Pricing and Data Analysis: Present pricing disparities, achieve parity pricing, and take weekly photos and acquire weekly pricing as needed.
Client and KPI Achievement
  • Meet or exceed sales, distribution, share, pricing, and promotional goals.
  • Implement retailer HQ calls, penetrate key positions, and manage marketing funds within guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate pricing and schematics, ensure incremental sales, and collaborate on retailer presentations.
  • Achieve targeted ACV on innovation products.
Business / Category Reviews
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and retailers.
  • Develop sales presentations and demonstrate sales accomplishments and opportunities.
  • Implement customer HQ calls and penetrate key retailer positions.
  • Provide strategic input for annual business plans and facilitate win/win scenarios.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities for direct reports. Indirectly, the Customer Manager may delegate work and mentor others.

Travel and/or Driving Requirements

Travel is not an essential duty of this job.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years in sales or retail experience with knowledge of the CPG industry.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Preferred: Experience with designated customers.
