Job summary

SpartanNash’s Family Fare location in Kentwood, Michigan is seeking a part-time cashier to operate the register and scanner, itemize purchases, process payments, and assist in bagging while delivering friendly customer service.

The role emphasizes accurate transactions, product knowledge, and maintaining a clean, organized front end in a retail grocery environment. Training and a supportive team culture are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of retail or related experience preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills; ability to interact politely with customers.
• Good customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
• Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize customer purchases; handle payments and assist in bagging.
• Process transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons accurately.
• Weigh and bag customer purchases.
• Understand use of check-stand equipment and ensure efficient operation.
• Maintain front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand items (newspapers, candy, etc.).
• Ensure proper PLU usage and report pricing or signage errors.
• Maintain knowledge of store programs and product locations.
• Communicate loyalty programs, in-store specials and coupons to customers, modeling high standards of service.
• Follow company policies on security, cash handling, product handling, and sale of restricted items.
• Keep department clean and stocked; comply with safety and sanitation standards.
• Assist with stocking items as needed.
• Follow PPE, safety, and guest experience guidelines.
• May be assigned tasks in other departments as needed.
