Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a friendly Retail Sales Associate to join our team in Annandale, VA. You will greet customers, help locate merchandise, and process transactions on the register.

You will maintain clean, organized sales floor, answer questions, and provide excellent service. Prior retail or cash handling experience is preferred; bilingual in English a plus. This is a great entry point into a community-focused nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all of our customers.
• Ability to settle customer complaints.
• Ability to perform basic math skills.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift).
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register.
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator.
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly.
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• Maintains clean professional appearance.
• Maintain an orderly and clean register area.
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary.
• Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms).
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
