Job summary

Fred Meyer in Meridian, ID is seeking a friendly Cashier/Checker to create outstanding customer experiences. You will greet customers, process transactions accurately at the checkout, and help uphold a clean, safe store environment while following company policies.

You must handle varied tenders, stay compliant with liquor and tobacco rules where applicable, and contribute to loss prevention by following procedures.

• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).

Responsibilities

• Cashier/Checker is responsible for being visible and actively greeting, engaging and assisting customers.
• Cashiers process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
• Checkers understand the POS system and handle tenders such as Cash, Checks, Credit, Debit, SNAP EBT, Offline SNAP EBT, WIC, Rain checks, complex loyalty offers, coupons and checkout procedures according to company policy.
• Checker adheres to cash handling limits and loss prevention policies.
• Cashier adheres to guidelines on restricted sale items (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs).
• Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
• Follow policies for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
• Stay current with ads and promotions (present, future, seasonal).
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and safety guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs and report unsafe conditions or issues to store management.
• Inspect equipment and notify departments of needed repairs.
• Create an inviting environment and answer product questions for customers inside the department and store-wide.
• Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
• Ability to work in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict calmly.
• Provide support to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults as needed.
