Job summary

Smithy Customs, a Houston-based leader in automotive customization, seeks a Custom Parts CAD Engineer to create precise 3D models and drawings for body kits, suspension components, and interior/exterior parts. You will work with manufacturing and design teams to turn client visions into manufacturable designs, ensuring safety, performance, and aesthetics.

The role requires 3+ years in CAD design, proficiency in SolidWorks or Fusion 360, and familiarity with FEA and manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in CAD design, preferably automotive/custom manufacturing.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and familiarity with FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including injection molding, metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
• Knowledge of automotive systems, mechanics and ergonomics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed CAD models and technical drawings for custom parts using SolidWorks and Fusion360.
• Collaborate with clients, designers, and fabricators to refine designs based on specifications and constraints.
• Perform simulations and analyses (stress testing, aerodynamics) to optimize performance and durability.
• Ensure designs comply with SAE, ISO, and vehicle safety standards.
• Prototype and iterate designs using 3D printing or CNC machining for testing.
• Maintain documentation including BOMs, assembly instructions, and revision histories.
• Stay updated on emerging automotive design technologies.
