Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is seeking a Detention Officer to oversee custody, care, and control of detainees, enforcing facility rules and contracting agency policies.

You will promote safety and order while representing the company with professionalism. Qualifications

• US citizenship is required.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• FDLE Certified Officer or 2 years’ corrections experience, or military veteran preferred.
• Must have a valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to work overtime and handle stress in a corrections environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and monitor detainees in living areas, recreation areas, dining areas and visitation areas.
• Coordinate and monitor detainee movements, conduct counts, and provide emergency response as needed.
• May be assigned to various posts including control room, front/sally port, health services, special housing, perimeter security, transportation, work details, reception, intake, and visits officer.
• Provide security in program activities and supervise labor crews in various areas around facility.
• Conduct shakedown for contraband materials and confiscate contraband per policies.
• Initiate disciplinary reports on detainees.
• Prepare reports and maintain daily logs as required.
• Ensure prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees in case of injury, illness or trauma.
• Promote facility cleanliness and report needs for maintenance or repairs.
• Serve as a member of special teams to respond to emergencies as required.
• Complete training courses as required by facility standards.
• Perform security duties for any shift as defined by management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
