Job summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a Custodian for the Student Union Building in Albuquerque, NM. This temporary staff position keeps events spaces, common areas, meeting rooms, and dining areas clean and welcoming, supporting campus activities and operations.

Ideal candidates are dependable, detail-oriented, and able to lift up to 30lbs. Pay is hourly, with benefits eligibility, and the assignment ends December 22, 2026.

Qualifications

• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Responsibilities

• Sweep and mop floors.
• Vacuum carpets.
• Empty trash receptacles and trash bags for proper disposal.

• Dust as needed.
• Assist Operations team as needed.
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Position Summary:
Custodians assist in creating a clean and welcoming environment within the Student Union Building. As a part of the fast-paced and student-centered team, this position helps ensure that all events spaces, common spaces, meeting rooms, and dining areas are safe, organized, and ready for the daily activity and events that take place in the building. Custodians have a positive impact on the student experience by maintaining the high standards of cleanliness, responding to needs promptly, and supporting the operations of the facility. This position also may have to move furniture to clean under and behind.

Conditions of Employment

• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
• All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

• Adherence to Student Union Employee Handbook guidelines.
• Ability to carry out detailed tasks.
• Understand and follow safety procedures and facility policies.
• Ability to understand verbal instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must have the ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate at least 30lbs.
