Job summary

Theclassichg is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents and staff. The role includes hands-on cleaning as well as supervising the housekeeping team to uphold high standards of cleanliness and service.

The Custodian participates in the Manager-on-Duty rotation for weekends and holidays and collaborates with the Maintenance Director on budget planning, inventory, and scheduling to ensure smooth operations across all facilities.

Qualifications

• Custodial or janitorial experience with knowledge of cleaning and sanitation practices.
• Supervising experience with the ability to guide daily work.
• Strong leadership and managerial communication to coordinate priorities.
• Familiarity with safety regulations related to cleaning tasks.
• Preferred: hospitality or housekeeping management experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties in common areas, offices, kitchens, dining rooms and resident spaces.
• Supervise housekeeping team to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and other machinery.
• Manage environmental supply inventory and ordering.
• Collaborate on budget planning and tracking with the Maintenance Director.
• Oversee housekeeping schedule and daily assignments.
• Assist with apartment turnovers, including cleaning and minor repairs.
• Conduct window washing and daily garbage removal.
• Support seasonal grounds work and outdoor upkeep.
• Report maintenance or safety concerns and assist with maintenance requests as needed.

Job description

The Custodian plays a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This position provides hands-on custodial support while also overseeing the housekeeping team to ensure high standards of cleanliness, organization, and service. The Custodian participates in the Manager-on-Duty rotation for weekends and holidays.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties, including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining common areas, offices, kitchens, dining rooms, and resident spaces.
• Provide supervision, guidance, and support to the housekeeping team to ensure quality and efficiency.
• Operate custodial equipment such as floor scrubbers and other cleaning machinery.
• Manage environmental supply inventory and ordering.
• Collaborate with the Maintenance Director on budget planning and tracking.
• Oversee and maintain the housekeeping schedule.
• Conduct deep cleaning of kitchens, dining areas, and other high-use spaces.
• Assist with apartment turnovers, including cleaning, minor repairs, and painting.
• Perform window washing and daily garbage removal.
• Support seasonal grounds work, including weeding and general outdoor upkeep.
• Conduct facility inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns to the Maintenance Director.
• Review and oversee daily housekeeping assignment sheets.
• Assist with furniture moving, event setup, and event cleanup.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and infection control standards.
• Assist the Maintenance Director with maintenance requests as needed.
• Serve as backup on-call support for the Maintenance Director.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

• Required: Custodial, janitorial, or commercial cleaning experience; knowledge of cleaning and sanitation practices.
• Required: Supervising experience, staff supervision, team supervision, or team management, with the ability to guide daily work.
• Strong leadership, management, and managerial communication skills; able to coordinate priorities and communicate expectations.
• Preferred: Industrial cleaning, laundry, hospitality, or housekeeping management experience.
• Familiarity with cleaning and sanitation management and applicable safety regulations.
