Job Duties

The department of Student Services and Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Custodian (FP019).

Job Summary

This position is responsible for custodial duties in assigned areas of UW-Whitewater buildings and maintaining these areas in a safe and sanitary condition. This position reports to the Custodial Services Supervisor and may work under the guidance of a Custodian Lead. All duties are to be performed in accordance with organizational beliefs and values. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.

This position is designated at Level 1 for risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. All established safety rules and regulations must be followed and personal protective equipment must be worn when performing job duties requiring their use. Employees will actively participate in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.

This position participates in the University Housing – Facilities Custodial overtime functions.

80% A. Routine Daily Maintenance of Resident Buildings
  • Clean restrooms, showers, locker rooms, and common areas.
  • Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from buildings.
  • Replenish supplies as necessary.
  • Vacuum and spot-clean carpet.
  • Sweep and/or dust mop floors.
  • Wet mop or machine scrub floors.
  • Clean hallways, stairwells, and drinking fountains.
  • Maintain exterior spaces, including entryways, walk-off mats, ash urns, and recycling centers.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, inside windows, and entrance glass.
  • Replace light bulbs and clean light fixtures and diffusers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
10% B. Performance of Related Duties
  • Clean and maintain equipment and storage areas.
  • Report needed maintenance or repairs through work requests.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, etc., as required.
  • Inspect exterior building entrances for trash and dispose of it appropriately.
  • Remove snow from building entrances, surrounding sidewalks, and recycling areas; apply salt as needed.
  • Strip and refinish floor surfaces as needed.
  • Shampoo carpeted areas and clean entry mats.
  • Drive University vehicles if authorized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
10% C. Team Participation
  • Function as a member of a team on special custodial projects.
  • Participate in problem-solving for custodial and other operational areas.
  • Assist other departments and employees as required.

This position participates in the University Housing – Facilities Custodial overtime functions.

Compensation

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting hourly wage of $17.00 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
