Job summary

City of Davenport, IA is seeking a custodian to perform routine cleaning and light maintenance of city facilities, ensuring a clean, safe environment for staff and the public.

The position averages about 29 hours per week with a schedule of Monday–Thursday mornings and Friday mornings. A background check and physical are required by the City of Davenport.

Qualifications

  • One year of custodial or building maintenance experience.
  • Background check and physical required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including offices, restrooms, common areas, and other facilities, using appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying trash receptacles.
  • Ensures that all areas are free of safety hazards, reporting any maintenance issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists with the setup and breakdown of events, meetings, and activities as needed, including moving furnishings and equipment.
  • Follows established procedures for handling and disposing of waste and hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, notifying management when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Adheres to established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of information, situations and materials encountered on the job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Job description

Under general supervision performs work of routine cleaning and maintaining city facilities, and moving furnishings and equipment; and performs related work as required.

This position averages about 29 hours per week.

Work Schedule

Monday - Thursday: 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Friday: 6:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

One year of custodial or building maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the required work in this position.

Must pass a background check and physical as prescribed by the City of Davenport.

Working Knowledge of:
  • Cleaning methods and procedures.
  • The use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
Working Skill in:
  • Understanding oral and written instructions.
  • Performing routine custodial duties.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with building tenants.
