Job description

Are you a motivated and experienced Custodial Leader with a background in manufacturing and production facilities cleaning operations? We want to hear from you!

Jostens is hiring for a true leader who will be responsible for coordinating and leading the Custodial Team in all cleaning activities for the plant, ensuring that tasks are completed on time while adhering to company guidelines. This position involves scheduling work and training, as well as maintaining safety and sanitation standards throughout the facility. Working with minimal supervision, the Custodian Lead takes the initiative and collaborates with team members to support supervisors and managers in achieving production and quality goals.

This position also involves operating powered lift trucks, floor sweepers, scrubbers, and lawn equipment as needed. They may need to shovel and apply salt to various entrances and exits if required due to weather conditions. The incumbent will perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor or manager to support the maintenance department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School degree or GED required.
  • 5+ years of experience in custodial or janitorial services in a production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, supplies, facilities, and equipment.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to lead and train others to achieve department goals.
  • Must be team-minded and positive in all interactions with employees at every level.
  • Good communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Good computer and office skills (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and overtime with short notice.
  • Works well under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Must have the flexibility to learn and use new technology.
  • Ability to spend most of the workday standing, lifting, bending, and walking.
  • Must be able to pass Forklift, Aerial Lift, & Fall Protection certification with Jostens.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. to shoulder height.
  • Excellent attendance & performance record.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience operating Forklifts and Pallet Jacks.
  • Experience working in a printing facility.
  • Skills in plumbing, carpentry, and general facilities work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads and provides direction, feedback, and guidance to department custodians on all shifts to ensure work is being performed effectively.
  • Conducts regular inspections of the facility to identify areas requiring cleaning or repair.
  • Coordinates with the maintenance team and production to minimize disruptions during cleaning activities.
  • Supports and maintains good communication with maintenance supervisors and other departments.
  • Performs cleaning functions such as cleaning front offices, individual offices, restrooms, lobby/main entrance, and hallways, as well as any assigned areas of the Plant and common areas outside the facility.
  • Wash, prep, and paint walls as needed.
  • Empties trash in production areas, washrooms, and re-supplies restroom products as needed.
  • Sweeps, dusts, washes office windows, and mops floors per schedule.
  • Helps with cleaning and sanitation of the Plant’s common areas and breakrooms.
  • Cleans main aisles and entrances as needed.
  • Instructs and mentors new and current custodial staff on their roles, responsibilities, and operational procedures, providing support and answering inquiries to enhance daily performance.
  • Fosters a collaborative environment by encouraging teamwork and ensuring compliance with best practices and company policies.
  • Exercises sound judgment in decision-making and adheres to established protocols to uphold high standards of quality and exceptional customer service.
  • Maintains inventory and orders all restroom supplies, cleaning supplies, and PPE.
  • Keeps cleaning inventory with the outside vendor.
  • Operates forklift and/or aerial lift to perform cleaning/dusting duties in hard-to-reach areas of the building.
  • Document and report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or incidents promptly.
  • Provides assistance within the Maintenance department involving work needed in various areas of the plant facilities as requested or scheduled.
  • Works within specified plant and equipment safety guidelines and instructions, including proper use of PPE, OSHA regulations and safety standards.
