Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus Environmental Services is hiring a Custodian to maintain a safe, clean environment for patients, guests and staff. This 2nd shift role runs 2pm–10:30pm, with every 7th weekend.

The starting salary is $17.66/hour and the position is based on campus in Iowa City. As part of Healthcare, you’ll use custodial equipment, perform dusting, cleaning restrooms, stocking supplies, and support a 194-bed medical center through shifts and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and follow directions.
• Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal background check.
• Experience in cleaning or healthcare settings is desirable.
• No university sponsorship for employment authorization.

Responsibilities

• General cleaning of patient and public areas.
• Trash removal and restocking custodial supplies.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms; refill supplies.
• Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping hard floors.
• Carpet cleaning and furniture moves as needed.
• Unit/bed making and wall/ceiling cleaning.
• Operate custodial equipment safely and effectively.

University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• General cleaning
• Trash removal
• Stock supplies for cart and custodial area
• Clean and disinfect restrooms/ refill restroom supplies
• Dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and damp mopping hard surface floors
• Carpet cleaning
• Unit/bed making
• Wall & ceiling washing
• Furniture moves and room setups
• Use various types of custodial equipment in performance of duties
• Other tasks and duties as assigned
