POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of Custodial Leadership, the Custodian I cleans and sanitizes to provide a legendary experience to members.

Essential Functions

• Ensures facilities are attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
• Performs duties including mopping, cleaning and sanitizing restroom surfaces, dusting, trash removal, window washing, vacuuming, cleaning bases of exercise equipment, seasonal activities such as snow removal, and general cleaning.
• Assists with housekeeping laundry, refilling disinfectant bottles, and restocking closets.
• Performs tasks using motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Follows checklists to complete tasks and asks for guidance as needed.
• Works independently and follows verbal and/or written instructions.
• Records and reports all needed repairs; performs repairs as directed.
• Ensures YMCA building and property are secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 required.
• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid and New Employee Orientation.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to relate and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Must be able to travel within Lake County to other Crossroad Branches.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
