Job description

The Custodial Team (Janitor/Housekeeper) is responsible for daily general cleaning of all common areas and other side-work in assigned work areas. The team assists in making a positive impression when members use the facilities and ensures that paper products and soap in restrooms and common areas are replenished.

The Custodial Team interacts with members and responds to their cleaning service requests in a friendly manner. They perform tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, window washing, dusting, and trash removal using safe cleaning methods, and escalate maintenance issues as needed. The overall goal is to work as a team to keep the facility clean and safe for members, staff, and visitors.

The salary for this position starts at $15.00 hourly. Compensation varies based on background and experience, and includes a range of benefits and earned time off, depending on whether the position is part-time or full-time.

1. Job Summary:

The Custodian I is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas, completing duties with moderate supervision. Responsibilities include general cleaning tasks, assisting with meeting setups, and responding to member requests with a focus on service and embodying YMCA core values: honesty, responsibility, caring, equity, and respect.

2. Essential Functions:

• Complete daily duties and maintain assigned areas and equipment.
• Perform custodial tasks such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, meeting setup, and vacuuming.

3. Relationships:

This role reports to the Custodial Supervisor, who reports to the Executive Director. The incumbent collaborates with staff to meet cleanliness standards and participates in training programs.

4. Qualifications:

• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and documents.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

5. Work Conditions:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials/tools up to 200 feet.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
• Work in dusty and dirty environments.
• Perform tasks involving reaching, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, twisting, and lying down as needed.
