Job summary

Hutchinson Community College is hiring a full-time Custodian to maintain campus facilities. Work hours are 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with potential day, evening, or weekend hours as needed.

The role includes cleaning interiors, HVAC vents, and fixtures while upholding college policies and safety standards. The position offers a 40-hour workweek, annual benefits eligibility, and at-will employment.

Qualifications

• Custodial experience preferred.
• Neat, clean individual reflecting a positive image to students, staff and community members.
• Ability to work day, evening, and weekend hours as necessary.
• Cooperate with students, college personnel, and the community.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds; adapt to indoor/outdoor work conditions.
• Completion of physical capacity and drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain interior spaces from ceiling to floor; clean light fixtures, replace bulbs; clean HVAC vents and change filters as needed.

• Arrive on time, perform responsibilities, and comply with HutchCC policies.
• Serve actively on campus committees.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Directors/Coordinators of Outreach and Facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Daily cleaning of buildings includes dusting, cleaning windows, floors, walls, and furniture, restroom fixtures, toilets, sinks, etc. Includes the use of custodial tools and equipment.
• Custodians are responsible for maintaining the interior spaces from the ceiling to the floor. This includes but not limited to cleaning light fixtures and replacing light bulbs, cleaning HVAC supply and return vents, and changing HVAC filters depending on their location.
• Assist other employees as needed.
• Willingness to workday, evening, and/or weekend hours as necessary.
• Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
• Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.

• Serve actively on campus committees.

Secondary –

• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Directors and/or Coordinators of the Outreach and Facilities department.

QUALIFICATIONS (Essential):

• Custodial experience preferred.
• Must be a neat, clean individual portraying a positive image to students, staff and community members.
• The ability to work as needed; including day, evening, and weekend hours substituting for absent coworkers.
• The ability to cooperate with students, college personnel, and the community.

• Physical requirements include but are not limited to safely pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, stooping, walking, carrying, climbing, and regularly lifting up to 50 pounds; possess eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to operate equipment, tools, etc.
• May work in adverse conditions with possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, and communicable disease; understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; Visual acuity to view a computer terminal; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; Medium/Indoor and outdoor work environment
• Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

HOURLY WAGE and STATUS:

The hourly rate of pay is $15.00/hour. The employee in this position will work 40 hours per week. This full-time support staff position is 12 months annual, benefit eligible, nonexempt, and at-will.
