We are seeking a Custodian Floor Tech who will clean, sweeps, vacuums, and polishes floors. Uses various tools, equipment, and cleaning materials to include, but not limited to hand power scrubbing and polishing equipment, small and large vacuum cleaners, large commercial type buffer, broom, dust brush, dustpan, wet and dry mop, bucket mop wringer, special cleaning solution, and chemical cleaners. Operates designated floor equipment to include auto-scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, carpet extractors to strip, scrub, and shampoo and wax floors, all surface cleaners, or other larger mechanical machines at least 3 days per week as a primary duty. Must demonstrate proficiency in operating these machines.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent preferred.
  • One year of experience preferer.


Preferred Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent preferred; significant related experience/training may substitute.
  • One year or more years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and write such as to be able to read labels on cleaning and detergent materials, disinfecting solutions, and so forth.
  • Ability to operate large, powered vacuum cleaners, cleaning and buffing equipment.
  • Ability to interact and/or work with faculty, students, staff and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to lift carry or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk or otherwise move about campus on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs on a regular basis in order to sufficiently clean them.
  • Valid Driver’s license preferred.

***This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered “probationary” employees until completion of 90 calendar days of employment. The university will notify the employees’ union. Bargaining Unit employees shall become eligible for benefits upon completion of their probationary period.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
