Job summary

Osseo Area School District ISD 279 is seeking a custodian to maintain and care for district facilities, equipment and grounds, perform cleaning, minor repairs, and support building operations with leadership duties.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and boiler licenses; schedule is Full Time, 40 hours per week, 2:30-11:00 PM, with opportunities to contribute to a safe, clean environment for students and staff.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Boiler licenses (Second Class C at hire, First Class C preferred).
  • Proficiency with building automation systems and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Direct custodial staff by relay of work assignments and supervise as needed.
  • Perform cleaning tasks in classrooms, restrooms, and common areas per standards.
  • Carry out minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.
  • Support kitchen staff with cleaning and stock storerooms.
  • Monitor building automation controls and report issues.
  • Maintain grounds and perform snow removal and seasonal tasks.
  • Provide excellent customer service to facility users.

Job Summary:

To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by performing tasks and duties associated with the maintenance and care of district facilities, equipment, and grounds. Additional emphasis is placed on the communication of work allocation directives and leading the work of other custodians.

Responsibilities and tasks include:
  • Communicating work allocation directives issued by the Building Operations Supervisor, Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator, Facilities Operations and building principal to the building custodial personnel.
  • Performing general housekeeping tasks to include, but not limited to, dust mopping and wet mopping classrooms, restrooms and hallway floors, cleaning restrooms, stripping and sealing resilient and hard surface floors, washing windows, walls, lockers; vacuum all carpeted areas of the building; housekeeping tasks to be performed according to established district systems and cleaning standards;
  • Performing minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and non-potable water system plumbing repairs to include but not limited to cleaning equipment, ceilings and floor tile and carpet;
  • Providing support to kitchen staff by mopping floors and unloading groceries and stacks in storeroom, and stock supplies in storeroom;
  • Monitoring and adjusting building automation controls; and
  • Reporting vandalism or unauthorized individuals in buildings.
  • Securing the facility; arm and disarm the security system;
  • Maintaining building grounds including, but not limited to, watering, mowing, trimming, pruning shrubs, trees, weeding, removing paper and debris from school yard and along fence lines.
  • Performing snow removal and keeping sidewalks free of ice.
  • Taking charge of all aspects of the physical operation of the building for which they are responsible.
  • Reporting to the Assistant Coordinator, Maintenance Services (or their designee) any breakdown of equipment that is not functioning as designed.
  • Maintaining and submitting all appropriate reports and logs in a timely manner.
  • Painting district facilities to include but not limited to walls, doors, frames, etc.
  • Maintaining building equipment per department guidelines.
  • Operating and maintaining boiler: Checking boiler to ensure appropriate operation.
  • Acting as evening contact for community education use of facilities; assisting in facilitating public needs.
  • Setting up and taking down equipment including but not limited to tables, chairs, band shell, etc.
  • Responding to questions and providing excellent customer service to facility users.
  • Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • MN Second Class C boiler license upon hire.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Computer skills, including proper use of email communication
  • Knowledge of proper operation of building automation systems
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions applicable to trade.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.
  • Caring for and repairing facilities and equipment.
  • Demonstrating leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Maintaining accurate and current records.
  • Helping, taking instructions and exchanging information.
  • Responding effectively to student, staff, and community needs.
  • Using problem solving techniques.
  • Providing excellent customer service.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Training or experience cleaning and maintaining a commercial facility desired.
  • MN First Class C boiler license preferred.
