Job summary

Osseo Area School District ISD 279 in Minnesota is seeking a dedicated custodian to oversee maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment while leading the custodial team. You will follow directives from Operations leadership to ensure clean, safe and welcoming school environments for students and staff.

The role requires a high school diploma, a MN Second Class C boiler license at hire, and is a full-time, evening shift (2:30-11:00 PM) with competitive pay. Start date: 8/03/2026.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Communicate work directives from Building Operations Supervisor and leadership to custodial personnel.
  • Perform general housekeeping and cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, floors and windows.
  • Do minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and non-potable plumbing repairs.
  • Support kitchen staff with cleaning and stocking duties.
  • Operate and monitor building automation controls and security systems.
  • Report vandalism and maintain security of facilities.
  • Maintain and clean building grounds and perform seasonal snow removal.

Responsibilities And Tasks Include
  • Communicating work allocation directives issued by the Building Operations Supervisor, Coordinator and/or Assistant Coordinator, Facilities Operations and building principal to the building custodial personnel.
  • Performing general housekeeping tasks to include, but not limited to, dust mopping and wet mopping classrooms, restrooms and hallway floors, cleaning restrooms, stripping and sealing resilient and hard surface floors, washing windows, walls, lockers; vacuum all carpeted areas of the building; housekeeping tasks to be performed according to established district systems and cleaning standards;
  • Performing minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and non-potable water system plumbing repairs to include but not limited to cleaning equipment, ceilings and floor tile and carpet;
  • Providing support to kitchen staff by mopping floors and unloading groceries and stacks in storeroom, and stock supplies in storeroom;
  • Monitoring and adjusting building automation controls; and
  • Reporting vandalism or unauthorized individuals in buildings.
  • Securing the facility; arm and disarm the security system;
  • Maintaining building grounds including, but not limited to, watering, mowing, trimming, pruning shrubs, trees, weeding, removing paper and debris from school yard and along fence lines.
  • Performing snow removal and keeping sidewalks free of ice.
  • Taking charge of all aspects of the physical operation of the building for which they are responsible.
  • Reporting to the Assistant Coordinator, Maintenance Services (or their designee) any breakdown of equipment that is not functioning as designed.
  • Maintaining and submitting all appropriate reports and logs in a timely manner.
  • Painting district facilities to include but not limited to walls, doors, frames, etc.
  • Maintaining building equipment per department guidelines.
  • Operating and maintaining boiler: Checking boiler to ensure appropriate operation.
  • Acting as evening contact for community education use of facilities; assisting in facilitating public needs.
  • Setting up and taking down equipment including but not limited to tables, chairs, band shell, etc.
  • Responding to questions and providing excellent customer service to facility users.
  • Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Include
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • MN Second Class C boiler license upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Include
  • Computer skills, including proper use of email communication
  • Knowledge of proper operation of building automation systems
  • Knowledge of all safety precautions applicable to trade.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.
  • Caring for and repairing facilities and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications Include
  • Training or experience cleaning and maintaining a commercial facility desired.
  • MN First Class C boiler license preferred.
