Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, is seeking a dedicated Custodian to uphold the cleanliness and maintenance of our campus facilities. You will perform essential custodial duties, such as cleaning floors, emptying trash, and maintaining fixtures while supporting the College's Catholic Identity.
The ideal candidate should possess prior janitorial experience and demonstrate effective communication skills. This full-time position requires working weekends and evenings as necessary.
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the building, equipment, fixtures, and furnishings. Performs routine custodial work including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping floors; dusting; washing walls, doors, and windows; and emptying trash. Performs minor preventative maintenance and minor repairs to equipment used. Assists maintenance personnel as needed. Reports major repair and maintenance needs.
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
Experience: Previous cleaning/janitorial experience required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Basic ability to operate/learn personal computer.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and maintenance procedures.
- Understanding of related safety and OSHA requirements.
- Attentive to detail.
- Able to follow directions and work well independently.
- Able to use basic cleaning tools, including vacuums, mops, brooms, etc.
- Basic interpersonal (written and oral) communication skills.
The job requires frequent standing, walking, and light to moderate lifting of loads up to 50 lbs. Frequent climbing, squatting, kneeling, and bending are required. Work is physically demanding and may require repeated motions, such as reaching, handling, and fixture maintenance. The employee may be required to perform tasks in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Works both inside and outside of the campus. Subject to weather conditions.

Reports to Custodial Supervisor. No travel required. Work schedule: 5:00am-1:30pm with 1/2 hour lunch.
