Job summary

A leading company in the community is seeking a dedicated janitorial staff member to maintain the cleanliness and safety of their facilities. Responsibilities include routine cleaning, light maintenance, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and be self-motivated individuals who can work independently. This part-time position may require evening and weekend hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum hallways and other areas.
• Ensure all safety risks are mitigated including inspecting and notifying management for repairs.
• Provide routine outside maintenance and keep entry windows clean.

Job description

Job Objective: Responsible for performing cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance to maintain the appearance, safety and security of the building and grounds.

Essential Functions:

• Sweep, mop, scrub, vacuum hallways, entryways, restrooms, gymnasium, chapel, meeting rooms, classrooms and office space.

• Daily empty trash throughout the building.

• Use basic hand tools to provide minor building maintenance

• Continually check for and replace non-working light bulbs

• Organize, keep track of cleaning Inventory and keep clean janitorial workspaces.

• Ensure all safety risks are mitigated (hazardous item storage, tools/equipment stored properly, locked/unlocked doors for safety, etc.)

• Inspect and notify management concerning the need for major repairs regarding safety or security

• Ensure proper janitorial supplies and equipment are available and in working order; advise supervisor of janitorial or building supply needs.

• Provide routine outside maintenance (i.e., picking up trash, watering flowers, sweeping sidewalks, vacuuming outside walk-off mats, etc.)

• Keep entry windows clean and routinely clean the outside windows

• Ensure gathering spaces are ready for meetings and services, including setting up and tearing down furniture and cleaning spaces after use

• Clear snow, ice, and other hazards from walking areas and entryways

• Support pickup, unload, and stocking of pantry items as needed

• Other duties assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:Janitorial and/or custodian experience preferred; however, employer is willing to train

Skill and Abilities:

• Ability to read and understand schedules, work orders and product safety information

• Ability to organize, prioritize and meet work schedules on timely basis with minimum of direct supervision

• Ability to operate basic maintenance equipment including hand tools

• Ability to work irregular and extended hours when required

• Position requires a confident, self-motivated, multi-tasked individual with integrity in the use of resources

• Act in a manner consistent with the Mission of The Salvation Army

• Ability to work with different socioeconomic groups

Supervisory Responsibility: Volunteer or Community service for Janitorial

Physical Requirements:Include standing, walking, climbing, and kneeling for extended periods of time; lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel:Local only

Driving:Driving is required.Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence. Must be approved and maintain approval through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety program to drive either a Salvation Amy or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions:Work is performed in part in a typical office environment/community-friendly programming setting as well as chapel rooms. This is a part-time position that may require occasional weekend and evening work.
